Expiry tracking Shopify doesn't do natively
Shopify tracks one pooled quantity per variant — it has no field for a best-before or expiry date. Smart Restock adds a batch ledger on top: each batch you receive carries its own expiry date, captured from the supplier invoice when it's on there, or set by hand on the expiry dashboard. You always know what's aging out before it becomes dead stock.
FEFO depletion and automatic markdown
As you sell, Smart Restock depletes the soonest-expiring batch first (first-expired-first-out), so the oldest stock leaves before fresher deliveries. Set tiered markdown rules per variant — for example 30% off three days out, 50% off one day out — and a daily sweep discounts the variant automatically as its expiring batch nears the date, then restores the price once that stock clears.
